THE TIMES -19 Jul 1875

SUMMER ASSIZES
HOME CIRCUIT, LEWES July 17, Crown Court

Foster Walder was charged with forging an endorsement on a check.
Mr Raven prosecuted ; Mr Barrow defended.
The prisoner, who was a veterinary surgeon and received an excellent character, was employed by a Mr Hill to sell a horse. He did so, and received a check for £140, payable to Mr Hill's order. He endorsed Mr Hill's name upon the check, which was paid.
For the defence, it was contended that he intended to pay Mr Hill with the money received.
The jury found the prisoner Guilty of forgery, but without the intention of ultimately defrauding the prosecutor.
The LORD CHEIF BARON expressed his concurrence with the verdict, and sentenced the prisoner to two months imprisonment, without hard labour.

THE HORSHAM ADVERTISER - 26 Oct 1878

CRAWLEY
A CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS, --On Friday ( last week ), two accidents occurred here. First to a boy, named Francis, who, while obtaining water from a well at the Ifield School fell in, but was promptly got out without serious consequences ensuing, although medical aid was summoned. The Rev. R. N. Blaker considerately sent the lad home in his carriage, just as the coachman reached West Green and was passing a truck, the little son of Mr F. Walder, veterinary surgeon, ran under the legs of the horse, and the front wheel of the carriage ran over his body. On examination by Mr Martin, surgeon, he was found to have received very serious injuries.
