In the name of God Amen The third day of November in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred and fourty seven I William Walder of Horsham in the County of Sussex Yeoman being sick and weak in body but well and alert in mind and memory thanks be given to almighty God do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following renouncing all former wills First I will and bequeathe my soul to the almighty God my creator and Jesus Christ my only saviour and redeemer and my body to the earth expecting to be {….} of the resurection of the last unto eternal life and happiness {…..} I give and bequeathe Joane Walder my daughter thirty pounds of good and lawful money of England and one dozen of pewter to be paid and delivered unto her by my executors hereafter named when she shall come to the age of eighteen years Then I give and bequeathe unto John Walder my son thirty pounds of good and lawful money of England and one dozen of pewter to be paid and delivered unto him by my executors hereafter named when he shall come to the age of eighteen years then I give and bequeathe Richard Walder my son thirty pounds of good and lawful money of England and one dozen of pewter to be paid and delivered unto him by my executors hereafter named when he shall come to the age of eighteen years then I give and bequeathe unto Mary Walder my daughter thirty pounds of good and lawful money of England and one dozen of pewter to be paid and delivered unto her named when she shall come to the age of eighteen years and {….} my will and mind is that if any of my children before {…..} shall happen to die before they come of age {….} {…..} {……} the paid {…….} before given them that they that portion and {….} apportion {….} of him her or them for dying aforesaid shall be equally divided amongst the other of the said children who shall remain and live until they come to the age of eighteen years {…..} paid Item I give and bequeathe all the residue of my goods and chattels not already given and bequeathed unto Jane Walder my wife and William Walder my eldest son whom I make and ordain joint executors of this my last will and testament And my will and mind is that the lease of this my house and farm wherein I now live shall remain and be jointly and equally to the behest of the said Jane my wife and William my son during the time and {….} of the natural life of the said Jane{…} shall {………..} a widow imediately after the death of the said Jane or imediately after the next marriage of the said Jane {…} shall happen first to the only{……} and behalf of the said William my son and if the said William shall happen to die before he comes to the age of one and twenty years then will and is that the said{…….} shall{….} me {………..} of John Walder my second son and if the John shall happen to die before he comes to the age of one and twenty years that should remain and to the {….} and behalf of Richard Walder my youngest son And I do {……} my {……….} friends Philip Searle of Oving my brother in law and Thomas Walder of Nuthurst my brother to be overseers of this my last will and testament I give to each of them ten shillings for the pain to be here in after {……} their charge and expound in witness thereof I have here unto put my hand and {….} day {….} first above written William Walder {…..} sealed published in the presence of Richard Booker the mark of Samuel {…..}

In the name of God amen the Fourth Day of February in the yeare of our Lord Christ according to the computation of the Church of England one thousand six hundred fifty & two I Edward Soale of -eppering in the parrish of Burpham in the County of Sussex yeoman being sicke & weake in body but of p'fect minde & memory (praysed bee God) doe make & declare this my last will & testament in manner following, And First I commend my soule into the hands of Jesus Christ my only Saviour & Redeemer And touching the disposing of my temporall estate, First I give & bequeathe unto Margarett my loving wife one hundredd pounds to bee payd to her one yeare after my decease Also I give unto her my best bedstedle & my best bed with the two boulsters two pillowes & blanketts thereunto belonging & my greene rugg curtaynes & baliauce & my new chest one trunk & two boxes & three payre of my best sheetes & one other ordinary payre of sheetes one dozen of my best napkins & my best hempen table cloth & three pillow coates Also I give unto John Walder my sister's sonne Threescore & ten pounds to bee payd to him at the end of one yeare after my decease Also I give unto Mary Walder his Sister the like sum of Threescore & ten pounds to bee payd to her one yeare after my decease And my will is that yf either of them the sayd John Walder & Mary Walder shall happen to dye within one yeare after my decease that then the Survivor of them shall have legacy of him or her soe dying Also I give to James Soale the sonne of James my Brother James Soale Threescore pounds to bee payd to him at his age of one & twenty yeares Also I give to Edward Soale sonne of the sayd James Soale Threescore pounds to bee payd to him at his age of one & twenty yeares And my will is that yf either of them the sayd James & Edward shall happen to dy before his age of one & Twenty yeares that then the legacy of him soe dying to remayne to the Survivor of them Also I give to Anne Soale the daughter of my brother James Soale Forty pounds to bee payd to her at her age of one & twenty yeares Also I give unto Margery Soale daughter of the sayd James Soale Forty pounds to bee payd to her at her age of one & twenty yeares And yf either of them the sayd Anne or Margery shall happen to dy before their said ages that then the legacy of her soe dying to remayne to the survivor of them Also I give unto Edward Soale the sonne of my brother Phillip Soale Tenn pounds to bee payd to him at his age of one & Twenty years Also I give unto Jane the wife of Thomas Peers Twenty shillings Also I give unto William Walder Twenty shillings to bee payd unto them within one yeare after my decease, Also I give unto Richard Walder Twenty shillings to bee payd to him one yeare after my decease Also I give unto John Soale th'elder of Rustington Twenty shillings Also I give unto Jane Kerwell the wife of Thomas Kerwell Twenty shillings Also I give unto Richard Soale Twenty shillings Also I give unto Phillip Soale brother of the sayd Richard Twenty shillings Also I give unto Mary Soale twenty shillings Also I give unto William Soale Twenty shillings wch sev'rall lecacyes to bee payd one yeare after my deease Also I give unto all my Godchildren two shillings a peece Also I give unto Richard Soale one of my workmen Twenty Shillings Also I give unto John Soale my servant Five shillings Also I give unto my servantmaide Margaret Keene Twenty shillings Also I give to Nicholas Parson my workman Five shillings Also I give unto John Hobjohn Five shillings Also I give unto Anthony Over Five shillings Also I give to the poore of the parrish of Burpham Twenty shillings Also I give towards the repayring of the Church of Burpham Tenn shillings All the rest of the my goods & chattells I give & bequeathe unto my Brother James Soale whom I make & ordayne Executor of this my last will & Testament Also I make Overseers of this my last will Richard Lylly of Ashurst & Thomas Lasseter of Wiston to whome I give Twenty shillings a peece In witness whereof I the sayd Edward Soale have hereunto sett my hand the Day & yeare of the date in the First side written ./ Edward Soale Read signed & published in the p'sence of George Edmonds William Pellett./
