William and Anne
were resident at Stakers Farm, Southwater, Horsham. Inventories were taken after the deaths of both William and Anne. They list a considerable amount of livestock and crops, including a team of four oxen. The valuation was approximately £150. William, the youngest son inherited after his mother died. Until the mid-nineteenth century the house was called Walders. When I visited in 2002 it was being renovated, a public footopath went right in front of the building and through the farmyard. It was subsequently on the market at £1.7m and was now called Walders again. My last visit found the footpath diverted and the buildings surrounded by high fencing and shrubbery with only the upper storey visible. |
